THIS! moment: Mia Dearden

What’s not to love about this moment? A 15-year-old girl wearing big baggy pants and an oversized t-shirt is expressing her love for the Powerpuff Girls, a show that allows young ladies to see themselves as superheroes, too.
Mia says, “‘Bout time they made something that tells little girls they don’t have to be cute or nicey-nice domestic. They can make just as much of a difference as any stupid boy.” What Mia’s comment underscores is the Powerpuff Girls TV show is giving women the option to see themselves outside of a gender-stereotyped box.
Funny thing about Mia is that she also fought for a role that has been previously defined as a male role — the sidekick. She further defies gender stereotyping by being the comedic relief — a role that’s not usually given to women. So, here’s to Mia and her love of the Powerpuff Girls!
